The Anne Rice Chronicles
February 13, 2020
A writer friend of mine asked if I ever interviewed Anne Rice. Yes I did several times for various publications. I was an avid entertainemnt freelance writer at the time and I really enjoyed talking to her whenever the opportunity presented itself. Once was in New Orleans where this pic was taken. I never liked my picture being taken, but it was part of the job and I had to do it for the magaizne. Just look at the old portable cassette tape recorder on the table. At the time it was a top of the line recording devise used by journalists.
If you are a fan of Anne Rice's books (like who isn't!), take a look here at my 1989 interview in the publication Inside Books. The book, The Mummy had just been published and it was a complete departure from her Vampire Chronicles series. The Mummy gave a a fresh twist to an original story and minus the usual Hollywood treatment.
When I asked Anne what made her decide to break from a traditonal writing habit of vampire themes that had brought her so much acclaim, she said: "I had this idea to do something on the mummy. My ideas was to have this immortal come to life. He's charming and intelligent, opposed to the movie versions."
Hope you enjoy.
